Juliet Ball works with stoneware and porcelain clays to make fine functional and decorative pieces. All her work is thrown on the wheel, glazed with her own glazes made from natural raw materials and fired to very high temperatures in a gas kiln. Her wide range of domestic stoneware, in quiet natural colours and including mugs, jugs, teapots, bowls in all sizes and much more, is all pleasant to use and practical, suitable for the dishwasher and the microwave.
In porcelain she makes functional and decorative pieces: mugs, jugs, dishes, also nightlight holders and vases, and she uses mainly soft celadon duck egg blue glazes to highlight the delicacy of the porcelain clay. Another aspect of Juliet Ball’s work is her smoke-fired pieces, mainly bowls and vases whose crackled white ash-glaze contrasts subtly with the rough smokey grey clay.
She sells her work from her studio at Cloonmore, and also at the Galway Market and Roundstone Markets. Along with Stephen Price she established the Galway Potters’ Market where she sells her work during the annual Arts Festival.
